Episode 4 – Disease Update and Management for Corn and Soybeans

To manage diseases in corn and soybeans, disease type, severity and timing within the season must be taken into consideration to make an economic decision on applying fungicides.

We talk with Dr. Pierce Paul, Corn and Small Grains Pathologist and Extension Specialist, and Dr. Anne Dorrance, Soybean Pathologist and Extension Specialist about what they are seeing so far in fields around Ohio. They share management strategies based on years of experience and research to help farmers best control the common diseases found in Ohio.

Weeds are the number one pest for most farmers, and as they develop resistance to herbicides, control becomes more of a challenge. Dr. Mark Loux, OSU Weeds Specialist, talks to us about what he is seeing across Ohio this year. He has some helpful strategies for controlling two of the relatively new problematic weeds, Palmer Amaranth and Waterhemp. We also discuss the new herbicide resistant weed technologies coming to the market. For more resources, visit u.osu.edu/osuweeds.
